A steel tube making machine is an integrated system designed to transform raw steel strips into finished tubular products through a continuous forming and welding process. The manufacturing process begins with material preparation. A decoiling machine holds the master steel coil, and a feeding mechanism ensures a consistent material flow into the subsequent stages. A critical preliminary step is leveling, where the steel strip passes through a series of leveling rolls to eliminate any coil set or crossbow. Following forming, the open-seamed tube enters the welding station. For most modern applications, high-frequency (HF) electric resistance welding is employed. This process uses an electrical current, concentrated on the strip edges by the "skin effect," to generate localized heat. The heated edges are then forged together under pressure from squeeze rolls, creating a solid-state weld without filler material. The stability of the welding power supply and the precise alignment of the squeeze rolls are critical for achieving a seamless and robust weld.

After welding, the tube undergoes several finishing operations. The internal and external weld flash is trimmed using carbide-tipped tools to create a smooth surface. The tube then passes through a cooling system to normalize the microstructure of the weld zone. A sizing section, comprising multiple stands of calibrated rolls, finalizes the tube's exact outer diameter and improves its roundness. Finally, a traveling cut-off saw, synchronized with the tube's movement, cuts it to the required length.
